Alice walked into her office on the Tuesday morning and hung her cape and bag on the peg against the wall. "Good morning, Sister Tan. That voice! It couldn't be, she thought widely. "What are you doing here? "she managed. I managed this clinic. You what? She was so shocked. I say I managed this clinic-. What about your career ? Well, I managed, don't worried. Shortly after seven this evening when her doorbell rang, she found it no surprise at all to see Shane standing on her doorstep. "Come in, I've been expecting you ! "Have you?" he asked surprise as he stepped past her into the lounge. He glancing about him. "Hm…nice little place you have here. You have good taste, Alice. Perhaps you could help with the décor of some of the rooms up at my place. Ignoring this, she asked: "Did you know I was here at Willowmead when you decided to come here ? "Yes, I did." "Bruce" she said knowing without being told. He held her glance. "Why didn't you start divorce proceedings when you had the opportunity, Alice? "She shrugged and walked away from him. "I was too busy trying to forget, besides, I though you…" "I was too busy trying to remember, "he said. Alice's chin lifted, I'm going to see a lawyer tomorrow." "No, you won't," he said harshly, because I shan't give you a divorce." "You can't refuse. You could be---" "I shall install you in my home, by force if necessary. "You think you've very clever, don't you?" she said angrily. "No really, "he smiled lazily.
"I never realised you could be so hateful !" "I never realised before before how beautiful you are when you're angry," he quipped back. "Oh, for goodness sake ! "she exclaimed. "If you've said all you intended to say, then please go !" "Don't you usually offer your guests something to drink ?" "You're not a guest," she retorted angrily, realising her error too late. "No, I'm your husband," he said. "Be thankful that all I'm asking for a cup of coffee." "He checks flamed. "You have a nerve! I---" She joined him in the lounge again a few minutes later and placed a cup of coffee on the small table beside his chair. "I hope it chokes you." "Sit down," "I---" Sit down, he ordered, gripping her waist with firm fingers and forcing her into the chair beside his. After a long talk about work, suddenly, he rosed to his feet, but her pulse jumped as he closed the gap between them, his nearness distrubing her more that she cared to admit. "Goodnight, Alice…." He said. Choosing to ignore him, she led the way to the door and opened it. "Goodnight, Shane."
